When a Writer Loves You

Writers are not afraid to crack their hearts open and pour out the words. They will reach into the dark depths of their souls just to see if something worth writing might come up. (Most of the time though, they just stir up bits of useless memories that have settled down at the bottom.) They will swallow all the words they can’t say out loud. Then they will push their fingers down their throat and vomit the words on a piece of paper.

When a writer loves you, they will turn you into poetry. You will be their muse and their inspiration. They will write you letters that talk about nothing and everything. When you think they have forgotten about you, they will leave you long messages that always end with a sincere “I miss you.”
When a writer loves you, they will read you like their favorite book. They will know certain parts of you by heart and they will highlight all your laughter and smiles. They will read between the lines and they understand you like no other. They will learn all about your nuances and they will decipher the look in your eyes without having to read you twice.
When a writer loves you, they will remember all those moments you forgot. They will collect those moments like they collect pieces of art. They will keep note of all the little things about you, too. They will notice the way your voice cracks when you are sleepy and the warmth of your hands on cold rainy days. They will know about the things that annoy you and the things that make your eyes go bright. They will ask you questions ranging from “What are your dreams?” to “What ice-cream flavor do you like?” When they watch a movie with you, they will remember the scenes that made you go quiet and the scenes that made you laugh out loud. When you tell them you love a certain song, they will listen to it until they too know the lyrics by heart.

But sometimes when a writer loves you, they will let you go.
They know, more than others, that not all stories can have a happy ending.

I hope that for once in your life, you fall in love with a writer.
Because when a writer loves you, you will be immortal. You will always live on through their words and stories. You will travel across time and space. They will carry memories of you wherever they go.
